Spider Wasp and Fiery Skimmer Dragonfly. A gouache painting, framed.
This largish orangey, black wasp is always given a wide birth when it visits. However, it is not a swarmer and is usually alone. I have seen it several times, dragging a very dead Huntsman Spider up and over my fence to its nest. Yep, it hunts the hunter!
The Fiery Skimmer Dragon fly is common along the coast here in Australia and New Guinea. This is a male dragonfly.
Both insects were found dead at my very large rear window, so I didn’t need to euthanise either of them. They were set by me. I had to hammer my pin into the thorax of the Spider Wasp…so, for future reference, trying to kill it with a thong - ain’t gonna happen! Clearly why its no match for the Huntsman!
They are both painted from life, not photos.
Painted in gouache on Arches 850gm Cold Pressed 100% cotton, water paper. Yep - its thick and beautiful with a wrinkly finish.
This is an original painting not a print.
The painting is professionally framed in Newtown. It is mounted and glazed with non-reflective glass. I take great care in choosing the frame so that the whole piece is sold complete and perfect.
Finished frame measures 22cmW x 27.5cmH and is 2.7cm thick.
The painting is signed and dated 2021
