Cicada - Greengrocer. A gouache painting, framed.
A botanical painting of a greengrocer, painted from a real specimen not photos. Painted true to life and scale. With my interpretive flair.
I found this Greengrocer, already dead, early one morning on the footpath while on my morning run along the Cooks River. Cicadas can be a frequent find in late February, so I had a container in my bum bag. Yay to planning and a bit of luck.
The Greengrocer, cicada, is common around the Sydney area.
I am a collector of insects too. As I paint from life.
Painted in gouache on Arches 850gm Cold Pressed 100% cotton, water paper. Yep - its thick and beautiful with a wrinkly finish.
This is an original painting not a print. I don’t usually make prints of my work, though I may paint the same specimen, many times.
The painting is professionally framed in Petersham. It is mounted and glazed with non-reflective glass. I take great care in choosing the frame so that the whole piece is sold complete and perfect.
Finished frame measures 19cmH x 18cmW and is 2.5cm thick.
The cicada measures 7cm x 4cm.
